SOMINCOR is a Portuguese company that owns and operates the Neves Corvo copper and zinc

SOMINCOR is a Portuguese company that owns and operates the Neves Corvo copper and zinc underground mine in the south of Portugal. The ore is processed on-site and the treatment facilities comprise two processing plants. The copper plant treats copper ores and has a maximum capacity of around 2.6 mtpa and the zinc plant has a nominal 1.0 mtpa capacity. Both processing plants comprise secondary crushing, rod and ball mill grinding circuits, flotation cells and concentrate thickening and dewatering.

Somincor has always aimed to extract the most out of its resources and was one of the first Iberian mines to adapt ultra-fine grinding and flotation. This led to an increased knowledge of grinding and flotation of ultra-fine particles (≈10 microns) while increasing the value extracted from the mined ore. This approach is the future standard in the industry. Somincor has also pioneered the use of paste tailings deposition of pyritic tailings above the previous subaqueous tailings deposition.
